DOBER 'TOONS

Sad Memory

I will never forget the horror of watching the ghastly tragedy on tv that day...It was a day I'd planned to load the week's new "Dober'Toon". No way could I do that. I went for a walk by the river in the woods, with my three Dobes, trying to make some sense from a senseless act.
Afterwards, as I sat in the parking lot looking at the American Flag at half mast, I noticed how the flag was not moving, as if it too were in shock. I began thinking of my Father, who served in WW1 and WW2, who died a hero for what that flag represented...and as I remembered him, a picture came into my mind...The usual happy go lucky Dobermans of "Dober'Toons!", were in shock. Angry. Insulted, and outraged in grief, their Doberman heritage of protection and love projected with emotion I could barely begin to illustrate. But that is where the inspiration came for this illustration. It is one of my favorites...not because of the subject matter, but for what it stands for. The United States of America.

Our special Thanks to Daisy Doolittle...
For the gift of the two 9-11-01 memorial symbols
